Depends on if anyone else is sitting in the other two chairs. Then you could partially dodge the issue by saying the person sat at the table, and state that the other two people were at the ends (or heads), and the visual would be the same.

Alternatively, you could also say "in the center of the long side (of the table)".

Is this sudden use of French a new symptom of your sickness? o_O
