Avatar was a terrible movie...>.> If you're not going to have a good story, but you're going to have everything else, then you just failed at making a good movie. The hype for that movie was so great it was almost pointless. I can't even believe it was nominated...>.>
But Distric 9 had a nice story, and started out very well, but then it just collapsed towards the end. If they kept with the documentary styled theme throughout then it would probably one of my favourite movies, but they failed at that.
Really, this year and last year's movies were a disappointment, same for 2009...>.>
I haven't seen many of those movies, but The Green Mile and Life is Beautiful = ALSKJDROASUTJA I LOVE THOSE MOVIES ♥♥♥.
I also liked Psycho, Caslte in the Sky, and Iron Man.
The Green Mile is my favorite on your list. :,D Tom Hanks is my favorite actor. ;3; Have you watched Big? It's another one of my favorites. :)
Coupling looks like a funny show, but I've never watched it before. xD I liked the first video.
Oh, that poor guy.
I'd give him my ears for his ear bucket.
Indeed, and WHOA.
I didn't realize that it had so many nominations.
I had to step away from my computer for a bit and ponder. ;_;
You're right though; some of the worst (or simply average) movies are the biggest hits because of certain elements and positive marketing.
Take the movie 'Avatar' for example. Don't get me wrong---it's a great movie, however, it can't hold a candle to District 9 when it comes to storytelling and depth. However, it's popularity was simple astounding.
And wait, No Country for Old Men was a book first? Interesting. ; o;
They're not at all alike, except they were adapted from popular book series. Lord of the Rings was an INCREDIBLY famous book trilogy (which was supposed to be one book, too), but Twilight is just a long and popular series. Lord of the Rings won several Academy Awards including Best Picture (a total of about 11 academy awards, 79 in total of all awards, and 117 nominations, the highest number of awards + nominations for a movie in history). Twilight won nothing (that I know of). Twilight is known for it's terrible movies, even though they might be box office hits.
The box office means nothing, just shows how well the movie's trailer persuaded viewers to watch it.
So I don't think they're anything alike, really. And a ton of movies have been adapted from books, even some that nobody knew were adapted from books. Like No Country for Old Men, I had no clue that was adapted from a book until I heard about it on jeopardy.
I've never seen Big Dreams, Little Tokyo before...But I've seen Little Miss Sunshine, it was good, but so many bad things happened that I can't really love, it's just not my kind of humor.
Ooh, that movie sounds interesting just from what you said! XD I haven't really watched any old movies, though I did like Psycho (a lot of people think it was stupid but I thought it was genius, especially considering it's time).
Yes, that movie. It was good...but...Ughh...I can never look at the male actor the same way again...TT^TT He just scares me now.
It certainly can't.
There's no other movie quite as magical as that.
I mean seriously, I used to watch those movies so much,
my mother would hide them from me because she got sick of hearing them after while. /Aragorn would be proud? *hopes*
There are some people convinced that Twilight > Lord of The Rings;
I think I died a little inside when I realized that. ;_;
Yeah, the extended edition...When it's over I'm really sad. But I like to watch it with commentary by the actors, they're so funny! XD Yeah, I love everything about that movie and book! <333 I don't see why people don't think it's the best movie ever made. He got several academy awards and it was a box office hit. How much better can a movie get with those kinds of ratings?

haha Out of all those movies I think I've only seen two~ I've heard of most of them I just haven't watched them. Haha I could list my favourite movies on one hand. I mean I love movies but I only have a few favourites. Big Dreams, Little Tokyo is probably my number favourite movie ever. Haha I'd say Little Miss sunshin, but I'm not sure that's a favourite anymore.... I really like this one old movie (it was black&white) I don't remember what it was callled but it was about two sisters and it was intense. One was a child actor and there was an accident and they were both crazy~. An Education is that movie about the english girl, right? I liked that movie. It was good. I'd probably watch it again~.
I've seen almost all of the movies on that list. ; w;
Lord of the Rings is made of 100% win---it's my favorite movie too. 8D
The Extended Edition is like movie crack to me. /laughs
Great list!
