News: Updates On CSD Mahoroba Anime

A while ago, I posted about Leiji Matsumtto working on Cosmo Super Dreadnought Mahororba. Well this week, StarBlazers.com revealed some new info about Matsumoto's movie project through its coverage of the Leiji Future event from Dec. 2011. Here are the known details about Cosmo Super Dreadnought Mahororba so far:

  • Unlike the manga Ultimate Time-Sweeper Mahoroba, this movie will use outer space as the setting of main action.
  • The Mahoroba will be featured in a scale larger than Great Yamato from Leiji Matsumoto's Space Battleship Great Yamato, but lacking a third bridge this time and possesing four catapults. So this movie will feature a 4th design for the ship itself (the first seen in Ultimate Time-Sweeper Mahoroba, the 2nd in Space Battleship Great Yamato[/], and the third in Great Yamato No. 0).
  • The same ship itself will be a part of a multinational space navy, unlike in the manga where the Mahoroba worked independently.
  • This will feature some new mecha: the battleship Superior (designed to resemble the Space Battleship Yamato battleship Andromeda but with three wave-motion guns instead of two), the Cosmo Shinden (designed to resemble Space Battleship Yamato[/] fighter craft Cosmo Zero), the Cosmo Gailus (designed with elements from the SF Saiyuki Starzinger vehicle Star Claw and Space Battleship Yamato mass-production fighter Black Tiger), and a Danguard Ace-type giant robot with a mix of 1970s and 1990s design flairs.
  • While this movie will feature new characters (including who will be in the Mahoroba's crew), it'll also feature characters from several of previous Matsumoto works, such as Wotan from the Ring of the Nibelung manga (the basis for the OVA miniseries Harlock Saga), the Metanoids from Galaxy Express 999, Shizuko Hirata from Drifting Express 000 (Matsumoto's self-parody of Galaxy Express 999), etc. However, it's unknown if the Miyuki Moriki of this anime is the same character as the Miyuki Moriki in Submarine Super 99 or the one in Out of Galaxy Koshika, but all of those female characters possess the full name of the real-life penpal after whom Leiji Matsumoto named Space Battleship Yamato character Yuki Mori.
  • Keisuke Masunaga (character designer for Cosmowarrior Zero, Gun Frontier, Great Yamato No. 0, and Space Symphony Maetel - Galaxy Express 99 Side Story) is serving as character designer.
  • Serving as mechanical designers are Katsumi Itabashi (a mecha designer for 1979's Galaxy Express 999 movie, Adieu Galaxy Express 999, Arcadia of My Youth, Final Yamato, Cosmowarrior Zero, The Gaalxy Railways[/], etc.) and Takeshi Oka (another mecha designer for The Galaxy Railways).
