News: Ultimate Time-Sweeper Mahoroba Anime Planned For 2013

Today, ANN reveals that Leiji Matsumoto (creator of "Captain Harlock" and "Galaxy Express 999" and director of the 1974's "Space Battleship Yamato") is planning to do "Cosmo Super Dreadnought Mahoroba", an animated film based on "Ultimate Time Sweeper Mahoroba" (Japanese title translates "Ultimate Spacetime Battleship Mahoroba" or "Superdimensional Battleship Mahoroba"), which ran from 1993 to 1998 and was written and illustrated by Matsumoto himself for serialization in Shogakukan's magazine series "Big Gold". The announcement itslef was first made on Saturday at the Japan-based shop Zero Goods Universe with Matsumoto visiting the shop's 2011 annual Zero Future event yesterday to reveal preliminary concepts for the movie project to those attending. The movie itself is planned for a 2013 release.

The manga itself tells the story of a photographer who records history as it's be being established while venturing through time and space with the crew of the Space Battleship Mahoroba. After the completion of this manga, both the ship itself and its secretary Yo Haguro would appear again in Leiji Matsumoto's short-lived "Space Battleship Yamato" manga serial "Space Battleship Great Yamato" (whose Japanese title literally translates "New Space Battleship Yamato") and "Great Yamato No. 0" (Matsumoto's 2004 OVA miniseries re-imagining of the entire "Sapce Battleship Yamato" saga) with the female protagonist herself appearing again later in the manga series "Out of Galaxy Koshika", which later became the basis for the Queen music video "Bohemian Rhapsody Feat. Leiji Matsumto".

So now, Leiji Matsumoto has three projects on his watch: a live-action "Galaxy Express 999" film (release date not yet decided), "Zero Desigze" (full release date and format genre still not confirmed), and "Cosmo Super Dreadnought Mahoroba".
