F&H Chapter 21: The Grim?

(Sorry I couldn't update yesterday... THIS CHAPTER IS LOOOONG! or at least it felt that way. Some foreshadowing here and there, some humor, and malfoy speaks yet still has no major plot role T_T Enjoy!)

Chapter 21 The Grim?

Kyo told Syaoran what had happened as best he could.Angrily, Syaoran attempted to rise from his bed.
"That monster!" He said making a fist.

Madam Taffy came in and asked groggily where Sakura was. Kyo answered truthfully: They didn't know.

Kyo briefly told Syaoran that he had to inform the others, and then he left. Syaoran could tell that something was stabbing Kyo's heart, and it wasn't just Sakura's kidnapping. It must be Yuki, he thought sadly.

Syaoran wasn't feeling so good himself. Never in his life, since he was a child abandoned and alone, had he ever felt this vulnerable and useless. This was one of the times Sakura really needed him. And he couldn't help her.
-------------------------------------
Kyo left for the table in the Great hall. It felt strange to be sitting there without Sakura. He remembered the first day they had met there. His memory wasn't sharp, but he recalled Sakura had been exhausted. Now he knew she came from a different dimension and that she hadn't arrived on the Hogwarts Express. Fai wasn't even their real DADA teacher! What black hole in space and time was everyone being swallowed up inside of? But wherever Kurogane and Sakura were, he wondered if they were together.

Silently, he ate his food, picking at the bacon beside his pancakes. Today was friday, so it was a minimum day schedule. He planned to find the others after the school day was over and tell them of the disturbing news. At the moment, however, he coul not leave the table. Security had directly increased with the number of missing people.

Kyo didn't understand. Why did he-who-must-not-be-named need them all? Was there someone else out there doing the other kinappings who had nothing to do with Voldemort? Kyo drained his goblet of orange juice and wiped his mouth with a napkin.

Dumbledore then rose to give announcements. "The following children are now missing: Sakura, Colin Creevey, Ginny Weasley, and Hikaru."

Kyo closed his eyes tightly before opening them again, wishing that he would wake from this nightmare he seemed to be locked inside of.

Dumbledore continued," Yuki and the Prefect Kabuto are also missing, as you already know. Please, if you have information on these diappearances, I must know at once. Though the school year is ending, Hogwarts will be forced to shut down if it is no longer a safe place."

Kyo felt guilty because he knew so much. But, he knew that if he ran up there and told the old man everything, then he would attract attention and make himself a target. He didn't know how many people he could trust anymore, besides his group.

"Your prefects will lead you to your first class."

Kyo was led to herbology where Hagrid was struggling to grow the mandrakes.

"How much water do these things need anyway!" A boy in Slytherin complained.

Kyo told him they needed 3 gallons a day to grow as fast as they were wanting them to. Hagrid ripped a worksheet from Kyo's hand. "No," he corrected him, scribbling out his answer, "2 and a half."

"Well excuse me for rounding." Kyo said.

Hagrid continued to pour water on the mound of dirt covering the Mandrake seed. "Kyo," Hagrid said seriously. " Gardening is a science, not an art. Precise terms are used to insure that everything is done accordingly."

Kyo sighed. After the last 1/2 gallon was added, Hagrid asked them all how school was going. Kyo answered with a grunt.

Hagrid returned the answer with a smile. "Don't worry, these mandrakes will be ready in a couple days, and then Peeves will become unpetrified!"

"Whoopee," one Huffllepuff said with dry sacasm.

Hagrid frowned.

"So the mandrake leaves will grow by tomorrow's tomorrow?"

Hagrid scratched his head. "Yah, something like that."

A Slytherin tok the instruction manual from Kyo. "So we just grind up their leaves and make a potion or what?"

Hagrid shook his head. "We're no the one's doing that. That there's where Snape comes in."

Kyo wondered what Snape would do to the potion. Poison it? No that couldn't be it. Peeves was already dead. That meant that Snape would probably just try to worsen the condition. Whatever he did, he wouldn't revive the ghost. His "master" was probably the one who petrified him in the first place. Maybe he didn't have any evidence of this, but it felt good to blame him.

Malfoy snickered. " How do you make a frozen ghost drink a potion anyway? Pour it over it's head?

Kyo rolled his eyes. So these were the ones that Harry Potter had to deal with. Annoying!

Hagrid dismissed the class and Kyo made his way to his next class. Transfiguration had been substituted by Devination. He shared the period with the Ravenclaw who one had Potions at this time.

"I'm professor Trelawny. Please, let your fate lead you to where you will sit for the rest of the year."

Kyo raised his eyebrows. He waited a moment for his "fate" to take him by the hand and then decided to find his own way.

"Ami!" Kyo said brightly when he saw a familiar face. "Want to sit by me?"

Ami blushed at his enthusiasm. "Well, okay."

They found a spot that had not yet been taken and sat at a double desk.

Trelawny handed each pair a stack of cards. "Today we will be using a form of fortune-telling: Tarot Cards. Split the deck, and place three cards in front of you, leaing a space between each one. Do this again with 3 new cards, this time facing your partner." She continued in a strange mistical voice to deliver instructions about the meaning of each card.

Ami began, flipping over the center card. "Okay, this one is a wilting rose. You are suffering."

Go figure, Kyo thought.

"The one on the left is the future, and on the right is your past. Which will you choose? The left? Okay..." She turned the card over to examine it right side up. "A black dog.... What does that mean?"

Kyo shrugged. "I'm man's best friend and I will help someone who is blind. What a coincidence!"

Ami shook her head. "There is no coincidence in this world, there is only Hitsuzen (inevitability) remember?"

Professor Trelawny scampered to their table moaning and looking aghast. "This is..... the GRIM! Boy! As the year draws to a close, so too will your dreary fate."

Kyo was taken aback. "Excuse me? I thought I read it pretty well."

She shook he head sadly. "Oh the inexperienced who defy wisdom.... Such was Cassandra's fate....."

When Trelawny was finally distracted by another victim, Kyo continued by reading Ami's fortune. "A group of grapes.... You're tasty--I mean have good taste?" He blushed in embarrassment. Great, Kyo, great use of the human language, he thought.

Ami shook her head. "What happens to the grapes on a vine? They are destined to depart from it's friends one by one. Does that mean more of us will be kidnapped?!"

Kyo quieted her. "Maybe, but my card says that I'll help Syaoran. To do that, I have to defeat the bad guys and you'll be free anyway. Just-Just be on your guard, and I'll take care of the rest..."
