I'm glad they didn't give whatever-it-was a name, it's more mysterious and terrifying to leave it as a complete mystery, although it did remind me a bit of the Fearmonger, from the audio play of the same name featuring the 7th Doctor and Ace.
My brother & I were still discussing Midnight today. We want to know what the creature was. And, yes, I did scream "Behind you!" when Rose appeared in the monitor!
