Heh, the photo shopped image of Eddie Murphy was good for a laugh, but that's about it. =P Not that he can't act, I just couldn't imagine him in that role.

Though if I knew had come originally from said source, that comment would have never have been made.

Despite that, what I said still stands, even though the rumor has already been proven false.

See, the thing with me is that the 'promo' shot with Murphy as Riddler was terribly, terribly photoshopped. So my first inclination—well, actually my second, since my first was a massive WHAT THE FRILL ARE YOU THINKING—is that the story isn't true.

Now, I know Murphy can do serious stuff. I also know he's a great comedian. But I don't really think he can be bat-stonking-insane.

Of course, if insanity was a qualifier, we might see Cruise as Riddler.... *shot*

I totally know where you're coming from. I mean, I love Jim Carrey. I've always thought he was very talented. Liar Liar will forever be on my favorite movies of all time list. But when The Majestic came out, everyone was like "Holy hell, Jim Carrey can do drama? And well?" Which pissed me off to no end. >.>;

Comedians are underrated as actors because so many people are in the mindset that the only thing they can do is comedy. But you have to keep in mind that there are plenty of actors out there that can do cross-genre performances almost seamlessly. Just look at Leonardo DiCaprio and Jackie Chan. Both of them have made themselves famous via dramas and action movies, respectively. Then people look at Burn After Reading and the Rush Hour series and they're like "O_O".

I'm not saying that Eddie can't do it, if that's what it comes down to. I've also heard rumors that Johnny Depp is in the wings for the role. But I'm just saying that taking into account his career and the range I've seen from him, I don't think he's a good fit (as you said). But we'll just have to wait and see.

Eddie Murphy is a good actor, agreed. I don't think he's right for The Riddler (although I am not really buying this -- until I hear the words from Eddie Murphy or Christopher Nolan's lips, I won't believe it), but he's become an underrated actor due to the string of "family-friendly" cash-ins he's been putting out for a while now. Lord knows the same thing would be happening to Robert De Niro if he weren't such a killer actor the first 20 years of his career.

In general, I think comedians are underrated as actors -- it's not easy to play a character on camera and make that character funny. It takes real talent, and that talent can be easily transferable to drama. I don't know why people are so shocked that guys like Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray, Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, etc. can actually act, haha.
