I don't have anything against big news channels as such, but I agree that these reports were ridiculous. They shouldn't be defending reports that they "believed" - you're 100% correct that they should be checking facts first, especially given the potential seriousness of a real situation (I mean, if it REALLY was a suspicious boat).
