Meals, snow, and Confirmation

I've learned many things from moving into a townhouse, most of them dealing with people and behaviors. One of those in particular is cooking styles. Everyone cooks in a different way, which I figured going into this. Two Asian roommates raised in their respective cultures actually do cook food of their culture. Along the way, I've had to explain the use of the oven, the wonder of frozen food, and why tomato sauce is better than ketchup.

Jiaqi and I are the most compatible when it comes to joint-making dinner. We're the kind who look at what we have, start with a base ingredient, and go from there. So Thursday, when I pulled out the box of spaghetti, we went from there. The sauce was a "what do you want in it" concoction. Turns out we wanted hamburger, onion, green pepper, and mushroom in it. It was chunky and it was awesome.

Terumi, on the other hand, needs to plan. She needs to know exactly what she's making, and is hard to budge on ingredients. I am trying my hardest to make her cook with tomato sauce and not ketchup. Don't get me wrong, the girl can cook, and I've enjoyed many of the dishes she's made. But she also leaves the most amount of dishes to clean afterwards.

Anyhow, snow! When we got out of class at noon yesterday it was coming down and had laid on a decent coat. Terumi decided she had to go to the DMV to renew her license, so off to the DMV we went. The good thing about having other people is that they can help you clean off your car, which is extremely valuable. The drive went fine, no danger on our part. After the DMVenture we took refuge in a diner (Flappy's Pancake House, greatest name ever I know). We also survived the drive back.

I'd like to say I stayed in, but I didn't. I was invited to a friend's apartment, so me and some of my sophomore friends hitched up and went over there. I got a nice dinner out of it! And I got to watch Mean Girls for the first time. And RED. And eat a Choco Taco. And by the time we headed back, the snow had stopped and there was no wind and it was a really nice walk.

But as far as Snowmageddopocalypse, it was no Snowmageddopocalypse; it was maybe like a third of it.

One final thing, one that's a bit of a different pace than my usual thing. I'm looking into going through Confirmation through the local Catholic church (one of many churches around the school for the many denominations of religion). My oldest brother did it while my family was still going to church, and my mom has really wanted me to do it as well. The reasons we stopped going to church are few but strong, yet not the typical reasons, and something I'll delve into in another post. But there was an ad in the paper on the course and I inquired about it to the lady in charge.

I'm surprised that several of my friends are Catholic. It's just the sort of thing that doesn't get talked about a lot because we don't feel the need to constantly discuss it. But I mentioned it to them and two of them are willing to be my sponsor (which I really don't know what they do but my aunt was my brother's so I can't imagine it being a lot of work for them). So it's great that there I people I know and like who are willing to help me out.

I'm going to church tomorrow morning for the first time in ages. My only concern is re-learning how to do the mass since Nehs once talked about it and I went "ugh".
