Umm . . . is it a completely lost cause? Just that I always hear stories about how a "wiped drive isn't always wiped clean". I guess you probably already gave it a go once, but maybe you could take the drive into a data recovery place? It's something to look into, maybe, if you haven't already.

Never let the adults touch electronic things. Most of them don't know what to do and just screw it all up. I would be mad as hell if all my pictures were lost, too. And the hundreds of internet bookmarks.
At least you get a laptop out of this, proving the silver lining rule. ^^

Ugh, that sucks. Reminds me of when my computer would randomly spaz out and I'd lose everything on my hard drive. :/
