If its just the cord then I suggest Ebay. Chances are somebody will be selling off the bits of their old computer and you can snatch it up. Just be on the lookout for a yellow tip. At most it'll cost ya fifteen bucks.
Bad thing about laptops, they're finicky, overheat, and have poor battery life. They're generally pretty hard to fix without just getting a replacement part, which is what I think you might have to do.
If you know a computer wiz down there, show the laptop and suggest if he can do anything creative with thermal compound. Might laugh in your face since it's really meant for cooling CPU, but give it a shot. Thermal compound is ten bucks at Best Buy, which is probably cheaper than getting a new power cord. Or at least, is cheap enough to give it a shot. Otherwise, you'll just have to replace it. Again.
