I think it's the fact that there are three As in the name. And A tends to be a feminine vowel. Don't ask.
Come to think of it, fewer girls seem to wear (noticeable) makeup in college than in high school... or maybe it's just that my college is more casual, haha.
One of my favorite Otaku moments came from this chatroom of people from the OtakuBoards. At one point, somebody went [concerning me] "for God's sake, she's fourteen!" when some guy was 'hitting' on me. Then White [as he was known, I'm not sure if that's his handle anymore goes], "WAIT WAIT...KATANA'S A GIRL?!"
The reactions were "o_o" "wtf?" and "GOOD GOD WHITE". It was fun. XD;
