Blaze chapter two; part two

They left for the coven the next day, but it took over a week of travelling to get back to Rewer city. Blaze had decided against telling Cole that she was coming, both so she could surprise him and so she could see how he was handling the coven

It was midnight when Blaze and Zee Zee arrived at the coven headquarters. They were met at the door by a young vampire who looked little more than fourteen. Amy, Blaze remembered putting a name with the face.

“Hi Amy.” She said. “Is Cole here?”

“Mistr…Blaze?” She asked, only just managing not to call her mistress. “I thought you were gone for good?”

“So did I. Yet here I am.” Blaze replied. “Now can you please tell e if Cole is in.”

“Yeah he’s upstairs in the main hall. Do you want me to tell him you’re here?”

“No. I want to surprise him.” Blaze walked forward to go through the door, but stopped when Amy made no move to let her pass.

“Aren’t you going to let me through.” Blaze said with a cold smile.

Amy looked nervous, but managed to keep her ground. “Your not the mistress any longer, and you are also not of the coven. We are not allowed to let vampires not of the coven in without informing the master first.”

Blaze’s smile softened at that. “It’s good to see that you are willing to abide by the rules even against your former Mistress, but I assure you that Cole would not mind.” Her smile widened. “And it’s not like you could really stop me if I used force.”

Amy turned pale at that and reluctantly stood aside. Blaze breezed in with Zee Zee following in her wake. “Thank you Amy.”

Blaze walked down the hallway with a smile playing across her lips. At least Cole had managed to keep the coven loyal to him.

Blaze gazed around the hallway as she walked toward the main hall. Cole had done some decorating since she had been away. Gone were the reds and golds that had coloured everything when she was Mistress, now they had been replaced by black and silver. Blaze smiled wider at that, Cole and her had always argued over what colours everything should be and she had always got her way because she was mistress. Now it looked like the tables had changed.

“I never realized how much I’d missed this place.” Blaze whispered to Zee Zee. “But that said I think I like it better now, when I’m not in charge.”

“I’ve missed it to mistress.” Zee Zee replied

They continued to walk down the hallway until they finally got to the door that led to the main hall. Blaze stopped outside and put her ear to the wood to see what was happening inside, but all she could here was silence. She sniffed at the air and found that much more helpful. The air was filled with the various scents of the members of the coven that had visited recently, but the only strong scent coming from the room at the moment was Cole’s.

Blaze thought about what she should do for a second, she wanted to surprise him, but simply walking in wouldn’t provide the shock she wanted. It took her a few minutes before she remembered that there was another passage into the hall, one that only those who had been master or mistress would know about. The added bonus was that it was behind the throne, which meant she could probably get in with out being seen.

Telling Zee Zee to stay behind, even the imp wasn’t allowed to know where it was, she turned down another hallway and went into one of the many store rooms, that were scattered around the coven house. Making sure to lock the door behind her Blaze walked over to the far wall and looked for the small M engraved into the brick. Slicing the tip of her finger with one of her fangs, she wiped a single drop of blood on the M and waited as the wall glowed red for a second, before going back to it’s normal appearance, minus the blood stain.

Blaze licked the last bit of blood off her finger and watched as the wound closed almost instantly. Then she stepped through the wall and into the hidden passage beyond. Blaze clicked her fingers and a bright flame appeared in the air just above them. Blaze smiled and blew on the flame, it had taken her many years to control her pyrokinesis to such a fine art and she didn’t get many chances to practise.

When she blew on the flame it grew bigger and with a muttered word it floated to hover above, and just in front of her. She walked down the passage with a skip in her step, she couldn’t wait to see Cole again. The flames sent flickering shadows across the walls illumination the centuries old brick that made up the tunnel.

It took a while for her to reach the turn to the main hall, as the tunnel had many branches, and managed to weave thorough out the whole building. When she was just in front of the entry to the hall she stopped and cast a concealment spell over herself, masking her scent and any other physical signs of her presence. Then, with another muttered word, she put out the flame and stepped forward. Cutting her finger again, she wiped her blood on the wall and stepped through.

She came out directly behind Cole’s throne and when she walked around she could see him lounged in the throne, head back and eyes closed. She smiled he could either be deep in thought or fast asleep. But the worry lines around his eyes pinned it as thought. Blaze went forward until she was directly in front of him, then she simultaneously dropped her spell and said in her happiest voice, “Hi Cole.”

Cole jumped nearly a foot in the air and nearly fell over, causing Blaze to crack up laughing and nearly fall herself.

“What the hell are you doing here?” Cole yelled, jumping to his feet. “I thought you were on the other side of the country.”

Blaze was laughing so hard that she couldn’t answer and Cole scowled at her, embarrassed. “Seriously Blaze, what are you doing here?” Blaze continued to laugh, not even attempting to answer his question. “Well at least I know it’s really you.” Cole muttered, a small smile gracing his lips. “No one else I knew would attack a Master vampire and then laugh so hard that they couldn’t talk, let alone defend themselves.”

Blaze finally got back enough breath to talk. “I’m sorry Cole, but you can be such an idiot sometimes.”

“Me. An idiot? You’re the one who snuck up on me, what was I supposed to do?”

Blaze just continued to laugh quietly.

“So why are you back here?” Cole asked for the third time.

“I’m back because my former employer lied to me and nearly got me mixed up in hunnter affairs.” She sighed. “And because I missed you. Life has been so boring since I left, nothing like I imagined.”

“Talking about your life, where’s Zee Zee? Shouldn‘t she be with you?” Cole asked

“Oh, she’s waiting outside. I had to use the passage to get here and I couldn’t let her know where it is.” Blaze replied

Cole got to his feet. “Do you think we should go let her in.”

“Probably.” Blaze replied. “But first.” She hugged him. “I’ve wanted to do that for the last three years.”

“Me too.” Cole said, hugging her back. “So how long are you planning to stay”

“I’m not sure, but at least a few months. My new life wasn’t as interesting as I thought.” She laughed. “Actually it was quite interesting, just not fun enough.”

Cole and Blaze started walking toward the door together, large smiles spread across both there faces.

“I haven’t done anything to your room.” Cole said. “So you can stay there if you want.”

“Sure.” Blaze replied. “But I would have thought you’d take that room, it’s the biggest one in the building.”

“Yeah, but I like my room and I haven’t been in the mood to redecorate.”

The pair walked out the main door and Zee Zee came flying over. “Hello Cole.” She said, going to hover just in front of his face. “I hope you have been well.”

“Hi Zee.” Cole replied. “I hope you’ve been good too.”
