Frieren goods from Japan: Japanese search terms, figure lines and spotting bootlegs
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End keeps pulling in new fans, and most of the figures, plush and acrylic goods still come out in Japan first. A lot of them never get a Western release, so the widest selection sits on Japanese new and secondhand marketplaces. Some notes for anyone hunting Frieren, Fern, Stark or Himmel from overseas.
Search in Japanese
English titles only catch part of the listings. These terms pull up far more on Mercari, Suruga-ya and Yahoo Auctions:
- フリーレン (Frieren), 葬送のフリーレン (the full series title)
- フェルン (Fern), シュタルク (Stark), ヒンメル (Himmel)
- ねんどろいど フリーレン (Frieren Nendoroid)
- フリーレン フィギュア (Frieren figure) for scale and prize figures
- アクリルスタンド (acrylic stand), ぬいぐるみ (plush)
Adding 中古 (used) or 未開封 (unopened) narrows a search quickly.
What the lines are
- Scale figures (1/7): the premium display pieces. New releases and pre-orders turn up on Amazon Japan and Rakuten; used copies on Suruga-ya and Mercari.
- Nendoroids: chibi, poseable figures from Good Smile Company. Frieren and Fern both have one, and they are an easy entry point.
- POP UP PARADE and prize figures: the budget tier. Prize figures are made for arcade crane games and lotteries, so the secondhand supply is large.
- Plush and acrylic stands: light, cheap to ship and good for filling out a box.
- Manga and art books: Japanese-language volumes and illustration collections, easy to find new on Amazon Japan and Rakuten or used on Suruga-ya.
As a rough guide, Mercari has a large pool of new and gently used figures, Suruga-ya is a hobby chain with deep secondhand stock and condition notes, and Yahoo Auctions is where rare, event-exclusive or sold-out pieces tend to appear.
Bootlegs
Popular series attract knockoffs, and Frieren is no exception. Buy figures from Good Smile Company or other licensed makers and check the box for the maker's logos. Be suspicious of a "1/7 scale" Frieren priced far below the usual range, because that is the classic bootleg pattern. On secondhand listings, compare the seller's photos with the maker's product page before you commit.
Getting it out of Japan
Most of these sellers only ship inside Japan, so you need someone in Japan to buy for you. International postage is charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, so a boxed scale figure costs noticeably more to send than plush or acrylics. Since the pieces usually come from different sellers, it makes sense to let several items arrive in Japan and ship them together in one box. For US buyers, the $800 de minimis exemption no longer applies: since August 29, 2025, parcels of any value go through customs and pay applicable duties, taxes and fees.
