Well as you all know today is April Fools and naturally that means lots of stupid silly pranks, some fun, some not fun. Like this one here and don't click on it by the way, and by that I mean the link at the destination, not the link on my page: Prank Needless to say, that did what's known as running some script that caused my browser to dance all over the page while playing music. I managed to pin it down at Des's advice but there was no add-on to remove so the way to get rid of it was to close it down and restart Firefox without being able to restore your session.
I learned later that one could simply back out of it, but I learned that too late, I lost the online session I had running with the University Network and incidentally over an hours worth of essay homework that I was finishing up. I'm sure you can imagine just how livid I was over that "harmless prank" I was honestly tempted to remove the post in question and temp ban the offender for a day.
Instead I logged back into the University Network and hoped that the history function that saves every ten minutes if you set it too had worked and I was in luck, it had, so I only lost the last little bit of that assignment I was working on at the time. I was still understandably pissed so I edited my post before theirs to include a warning for other users who weren't familiar with the prank so they wouldn't fall for it too. Though if you follow the thread, some people missed my warning and clicked on it anyway.
Now in general, I don't mind pranks for April Fools, just take a look at what Des has done to OtakuBoards He turned the entire boards into one giant Caramelldansen video. Which is kind of hilarious with the dancing girls at the top and how everyone's avatars and signatures all match, along with the custom titles. Sure it's unavoidable and weird looking, but... it doesn't interfere with your ability to use the site or mess with your browser like the other prank does.
Anyway, it's over with, I didn't have to re-do all of my homework and life goes on, but those who know me can tell you just how annoyed I was on AIM when that went down. :p
EDIT: And yes I know the stupid site says it's the second, but it's only 9:15pm on 4/01/08 at this very moment. I've no idea what time the clock for this place is set to.
