Games Jukebox - Bulletstorm

The 360 and PS3 era showed us a glimpse of what the trends were becoming, nothing but shooters, so standing out was the key to being remembered.

Released in 2011, Bulletstorm is an FPS with emphasis on style as it gives you over hundred ways to kill your enemy and keeps score, the tone matching other high octane classics like Duke Nukem and Serious Sam.
You play Grayson the leader of a former black ops team who seeks out revenge on his commander for being framed for war crimes, in a drunken rage, Grayson attacks his former commander only to be stranded on an unknown planet with most of his crew dead. Upon meeting another Black ops soldier, Grayson acquires a special leash for yeeting enemies and blasting them to bits.

Speaking of Duke Nukem, he turns up in the remaster.

Pros
Amazing how much you can do when you get creative with the genre
Game has a balanced difficulty
Works well with the edgy humour
Genuinely fun to play if only to experiment and achieve every skill shot

Cons
Missed a chance for a decent multiplayer
Hard to see myself playing it again after completion
Way too easy to mix up controls during skill shots

Verdict
Among other FPS games, it stands out yet still can't surpass the main players like Call of Duty, yet I feel that in the end this title will be remembered for reminding us to have fun.

Games Jukebox - Blur

Today is a game that should've been way more popular than it's numbers suggested.

Released in 2010 for PS3, 360 and PC, Blur was the last swan song for Bizarre Creations better known for works like Project Gotham Racing, it was billed as the Mario Kart for the hard core gamer where progression was dictated by fan numbers instead of currency. And yes you can blast your opponents with power ups, so their mission statement is very much real.

It's legacy lives on in Forza Horizon who took on several of it's crew when Bizarre Creations got shut down.

Pros
Extremely fun
Good power ups
Some epic races

Cons
Progression is painfully slow
Never really got the social media selling point to work.
Some bull shit achievements.

Verdict
I love Blur for being fun and I actually do find the game better than Mario Kart

Gamers Bar of Useful Tips: The Scourge of Shovelware

Just an interesting discovery but it will come with an announcement at the end.

This month, I've been partaking in an achievement challenge on X-Box One to top my friend group with as many points as possible in a single month, my friends rose to the challenge but one of them has acquired so many points in a short time that with less than two days to go is looking unbeatable but a comparison between the games we are playing reveals that my rival has just picked up as many Shovelware titles as possible, what I mean is that he's picked games that have ridiculously easy achievements, full 1000g in 20 minutes to an hour.
I've not heard of any of the titles he's playing but it now occurs to me why these titles exist. If you guarantee easy achievements then it's a guarantee quick buck as under no other circumstances would you consider buying these titles normally.
Considering that I'm not made of money, I only really have the game pass to rely on, but then I found Wandersong.

I was told it was easy but I found out why. There's a level select code and it doesn't disable achievements, so a game that should entertain you for hours is now done and dusted in 20 minutes, sure doing it gets the bad ending but if you already got everything from the achievements, why care about the story? All the effort the creators put in has been undone by a simple cheat code, which is a shame, because it really is a good game by it's own merit but the decision to add this code has destroyed anything the game could offer and you know what? It's the same everywhere else and I still criticise Lego for doing it.
So if the Shovelware stops the bullshit achievements then maybe we can have good games again and good games will be my plan for next month as I shed light on old unexpectedly good games in the advent calender of hidden treasures in a new feature I call the Games Jukebox.
