I tried to learn Alchemy but there was too much meditation involved and it takes multiple years to learn it, so I kinda gave up (pretty lame right?)

Hah, yeah... it seems a lot of people are blind to the fact of what Alchemy really is outside of the popular anime/manga mainstream. ^_^ Nice info! I did a report on Alchemy a couple of years ago for an English class and learned quite a bit as well.
Umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Alchemy was also around before Christianity... Although, the basis behind alchemy is in the word itself.
derived from "alchemia" (I think XD)
"Al" = equal sides, as in "Algebra" (equalizing both sides of an equation)
"-chemy" = science and "Chemistry"
Thus= "Equalizing both sides of a chemical equation"
And that leads us to "Equivalent Exchange"

Anyhoo, yeah! You should continue looking into it! There's a lot to learn, both mentally and spiritually. (>_0)

You've probably already heard this but...
there were FAKE alchemists out there.
They would coat gold with a little bit of lead or something right?
Then they take it to the king, whoever. And they heat is a little and...viola! Gold. Then the king would give them power and money to continue their 'research'.
