I've known people who had something about them that just made me want to be like them. The one I remember the most was a teacher in High School. She was an older, very plump, lady with an odd accent. She made no bones about the fact that she loved Miss Piggy (from the muppets) and good food. She even mentioned a few times that she had no intention of dying skinny, ever.
Being the rude teenagers that we were we often joked about her being the pig since she was so overweight. Never to her face though. I do recall that she honestly didn't care that she was overweight and later we all found out why.
She was Jewish and was one of the few of her family members that escaped from the horrors of WWII. I can't recall the full details anymore but I do remember learning that she was nearly starved to death as a child and was lucky enough to end up in America with relatives.
I'm sure you can imagine how guilty so many of us felt over making fun of her. She wasn't a pig or lazy or any of the snide things we said behind her back. She was a genuinely honest woman who appreciated good food and was unaffected by the stigma of being on the plump side.
It made me wish I could be more honest about stuff like that and not care about what others think in regards to weight or anything else for that matter. That one thing taught me more than anything else did in her class.
I like that.
I tend to question what people tell me over and over again and think about the way they may have meant it or in which way it could be executed in a way that would be beneficial in my head so I don't really know where I get my own opinions from but I think I turned out okay, usually. > >;;
