    Simon passing the helm of destiny (I'm copyrighting that phrase. You owe me nickel for reading it) to the next generation was really fitting, in my opinion. His battle was over and he didn't want the weight of the world on his shoulders anymore, now that there were younger people like Gimmy and Darry who were more suited to share the role with everyone.

    Besides that, Simon had basically become so powerful by the end of the series he had no choice but to retire, since any kind of Spiral Energy he created more powerful than Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann would probably instantly initiate the Spiral Nemesis. Since he decided he had no place in the New World he helped create, and Nia was no longer with him, he decided to go into seclusion, which really suited him, I thought.
