This is the sorta story that only makes me hate Light more. I think Light really did miss L but he just refused to admit it. He kept saying things about how Near would never be as good as L and he was angry when Near was wearing the L mask. I think that shows that Light actually respected L. I don't believe he truly thought of him as a friend, just as a worthy opponent.
