News: DC Universe Animated Original Movies For 2012

According to WhatCulture! and DC Comics, Bruce W. Timm (the co-creator of "Batman: The Animated Series", "Superman: The Animated Series" and "Justice League Unlimited") had confirmed at the San Diego Comic-Con that three installments of the "DC Universe Animated Original Movie" series are currently in development for a 2012 release, though the full details about the release dates and casting have not yet been confirmed.

The first of the three will be "Justice League: Doom", which will be an adaptation of the "Tower of Babel" storyarc, which was written by Mark Waid for "JLA" No. 43-46. In this film, Batman's affiliation with the other Justice Leaguers falls into harm's way when his foe Ra's al Ghul steals his secret profile documents of them, which contain info on their strengths and weaknesses.

The second will be "Superman Vs. The Elite". Based on "What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice and the American Way?", a story featured in "Action Comics" Vol. 1 No. 775, this movie will focus on Superman's struggle to cope with the changing times when he encounters a group of super-powered vigilantes who use murder in an effort to punish villains to the extent of making his superhero code of morals and ethics look outdated in the eyes of the general public.

Last but not least, there will be a two-part animated feature adaptation of comic book writer Frank Miller's popular 1986 comic book miniseries "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns". Like the comic book work itself, this film will be set outside the current mainstream DC Universe and depict a middle-aged Bruce Wayne in the future returning to the mantle of Batman to fight criminals and facing opposition from Gotham City's police force and the U.S. government officials, who are using Superman as a pawn to combat superheroes rufusing to retire (uh oh!).
