Chapter 10
“rest”
The sun came up and the light shone through the window and onto John’s face waking him up. John noticed that Kara was still sleeping on his shoulder, John’s legs were starting to cramp, he tried to move into a comfortable position without waking Kara. After getting setteled John sat and relaxed, after what he guessed was a half and hour he heard noise outside the room, sounds like one of the other girls are up he thought, he turned his head and looked at the clock on the wall, it was five thirty A.M.
Kara’s eyes flickered open as she woke up, her eyes adjusted to the light and she realized she was still in John’s arms, she looked up and aw the sun rays hitting John’s face making it easy to see in the darkened room. John turned his gaze to Kara and saw she was awake, “well good morning sleepy head”. “What happened?” Kara asked. “well after your nightmare you fell back asleep, I didn’t want to wake you by moving so I sat here and slept next to you. She was looking up at him and he could see her crystal blue eyes, he noticed she was blushing and quickly turned away. John got up and stretched, “I’ll go fix us up some breakfast” John said.
As he walked out the door Kara noticed he was blushing, just a little, he left the room and she sat there thinking, He was blushing to could it be…oh dammit Kara this isn’t the time to be thinking about things like that! She thought. A knock came from the door startling her, “come in” she said, Lily walked in and closed the door, Kara can we talk?” Lily asked. “sure what’s up” Kara said, Lily sat down next to Kara, “Can this stay just between us?” Lily asked. “Okay what is it?” Kara asked, “Are you in love with John?” Lily asked. Kara’s eyes widened in surprise and she felt her cheeks burn as she started to blush, “wh-what?” Kara asked. Before anyone could speak John walked in with a couple sandwiches, he noticed Lily was in the room as well, “ I didn’t know you were awake” John said, “you want a sandwich?” he asked. “No thanks I’m not hungry” Lily said.
“Okay, how about you Kara?” John asked, “what kind do you have?” Kara asked back. “There’s one ham, one chicken, and two bologna” John said, “I’ll take the chicken” Kara said. John handed the chicken to Kara and took a bologna sandwich for himself, “When Jenni wakes up I think we should get going” John said, “why?” both girls asked, “Because I wanna get back before everyone wakes up John said. A scratching noise started to come from outside the window, John walked to the window and looked out the window, “what the hell is making th-” John got cut off, he jumped back barely dodging a clawed hand, “What the hell!” John yelled, “Kara, Lily, get out of the room!”
The creature crawled into the room, it looked like a human except for the hands which had long thin claws like fingers, it’s face was covered by long jet black hair. The creature raised it’s hands and the claws flew out at Kara barely missing her, the claws were still attached to the creatures hands by what looked like skin ligaments. Kara screamed running out the door, the creature’s claws retracted and shot at Kara again, smashing into the wall outside the door. John held up his pistol, before he could fire the creature lunged at it’s claws and was clinging to the wall. “John where are you?!” Lily yelled, “get Jenni and run outside I’ll meet you out there” John replied. John heard the three girls leave, slamming the door behind them, the creature turned and shot it’s claws and John heard them smack into the door and it whisked away, “is it blind” John thought.
John picked up an old cd and flung it at into the hallway hitting the wall, the claws flew over and struck the cd midair, “looks like I’m right” John whispered, John smiled and picked up another and flung it down the hall away from the door, it skidded across the floor and the creature followed. John silently walked down the hall, he took another step and the floor creaked, the claws landed right next to his foot, dammit only one place to go. John hesitated, no one had gone into that room since his brother died, the creature lunged at him, “sorry bro” john said and opened the door running in, he turned and the creature was right behind him.
The three girls were outside the apartment still waiting, Lily was sitting, Jenni was leaning against the wall, and Kara was pacing back and forth, Hurry up John Kara thought. She looked over at Jenni and Lily, they weren’t paying any attention to her. While the other girls were looking away she snuck away and back into the building and ran to John’s apartment building and walked into the apartment. Both John and the creature heard the door close, “John were are you?” Kara’s voice said from the hall. The creature turned out to the hall and shot it’s claws out towards Kara, she screamed as the creature lunged at her, John looked for something to use, he saw a baseball and he picked up and threw it at the wall. The creature went after the sound of the ball and John ran across the room and grabbed a sword from off the wall and stood by the door.
Kara started to walk towards the room when the floor creaked and the creature turned and ran at her, John saw the creature starting to run at Kara, John slammed his fist against the door and the creature jumped through the door swinging it’s claws at John, John slashed at the creature.
Kara saw the blood spatter come out of the room and hit the wall, “John!” she yelled, the only sound was of something heavy hitting the floor, blood started pooling outside the door, “John answer me!” Kara yelled, tears welling into her eyes.
