Get a mastiff puppy! I have a mastiff and they are the sweetest animals. On the other hand, they can get to be the size of a small pony, so maybe not...
I'm really sorry about your loss. My grandfather died around this time of year, so the holiday season is a bit melancholy for my family, too, especially for my dad.
