Selena's War Stories & Interviews

This is picking up soon after the previous entry, "Selena the Bar-Hopper."

This one will be narrated from my OC's perspective so now I turn it over to her:

Selena Reports to Katherine

On the morning report Katherine stated that she was free at 1500, so after doing my flight tests I locked down my station and took a shower before I prepared to report into her.
Just to piss her off I got into my old military uniform and did it military style. I like seeing her look uncomfortable because she doesn't like to talk about her time in the military.

Captain Katherine Steady was sitting in her office, her face buried in paperwork before I knocked on the door.
"Come in" she said without even looking up. She didn't notice me until I was right in front of her desk, and when she saw me I saw her upper body jump back and go "What the hell?"

I could hardly contain my laughter until she sighed, "Sit down, Selena."

"Oh Captain, my Captain--" I shouted before taking a seat and I think she almost fell out of her chair in both frustration and hilarity. She leaned up and put her feet on her desk before picking something up.

"So do you know all of what I have you in here for, Selena" she started and I just shook my head.
"Well good--remember when you gave me that report on that new fancy engine your were trying to build?"

"Yes, ma'am" I said in an exaggerated tone and I saw veins pulse in her head. I just loved messing with her.

"Consider this a 'vacation mission' then. Earlier I told you that I sending you to this area in Sector 62" she stated as she tapped an object on her desk, it had the shape of two pyramids, one inverted and attached under the one facing up. A holographic map was displayed on the light emitting from it.

"This little town right here should be a playground for a grease-monkey like you. My Bro told me that this place is a home for really good engineers and has a lot of high-end pawn stores and chop shops that you could poke around in. Would I be wrong to assume that this interests you?"

I responded sharply, "Not at all, I'd love to go. I'd just like to know how long I'd be staying and if there are any protocols that I need to go over."

"About that...This thing right here is apparently some type of alternative Earth so the only thing you'd need to look out for is anything you'd have to look out for at home." At that point I saw her gaze narrow on me and it took me a second to process that. We haven't talked about it much, but I felt as if she could intuitively feel my discomfort thinking of home.

She spoke again, "Considering your performance during The Heisel Job*, your recent capture of those 3 big fish* this month--"

Then I interrupted, "And the fact that you offered to let me borrow your Vinegaroon and I just decided not to remind you that you owe me for--"

"THAT'S ENOUGH!" she almost laughed. I saw her put her face in her hand before she sighed and picked herself back up.

"I can give you 2 weeks on the pretense that every 3 days you report to me your findings. If nothing turns up or the engine test is a bust then we'll pick you back up" she quickly spat off to me before throwing the file full of papers back onto her desk, but further on my side.

"Sounds good to me, thank you Captain" I replied.
She sternly lifted her finger before I was ready to depart, "But before that I will need to go through a brief interview before I send you off. Shouldn't be longer than 10 minutes."
After she finished her statement she shoo'ed me away with her hand and scoffed.

I stood up and placed myself behind the chair. I stared intently at her; usually when I give her that look she'll try to squint her eyes either to scare me or to pretend as if she doesn't see me...Sometimes I don't know which it is.

"Selena--" she grunted at me, causing me to respond, "Captain"
..."(huff) Take that off!"

I nodded and saluted, "Ma'am will that be all?"
She pushed her glasses up on the bridge of her nose with her knuckle before sighing and flipping me a half-assed salute and saying through gritted teeth "Get the hell outta here."

I turned around and exited her office, hearing her chuckle as I walked back to my room.

-THE END
The '*' will be for a key term that need to be explained:

The Heisel Job- To be explained later
Big Fish- A bounty of either a person, an object, or a creature is called a "fish." A big fish is essentially a big bounty.
Vinegaroon- The name of one of Katherine's personal vehicles, one that Selena really likes.
