I think Twitter is very good when people use it to pass on new information to one another, and in that case Twitter is only a vehicle for passing something on to someone else. There's nothing really new or radical in that fact; it's just that things get passed on faster these days, and the speed of this information is both a good and bad thing.
Well researched information is good, but I think the substantial research usually gets passed over lightly by bloggers, who seem to be focused more on personal prestige and status than reliability. Bloggers don't have the stand under the scrutiny peer-review journals, and anything that sounds the least bit plausible could eventually gets passed on to others as being "fact" in the blogging world. Here's where the speed of information collection and transmission has to be slowed down and studied.
It's also interesting that when someone does attempt to say something meaningful in 140 characters or less, the person has to do it in multiple tweets - viz. something coming close to resembling a lengthy argument. If someone is going to do that, then there are better places to do it. And that's where, as you say, the magic of the link comes in. It links us quickly to facts, provided everyone is careful enough. I just think some people need to step back and learn to dwell on issues from time to time - even if that time stretches on for days, weeks, months, or even years.
Chomsky does have a long biography list to study.Never really studied a lot of his work but it's interesting to see where he stands and what kind of "views" of political and language he sustains.
Heading into twitter ,it's an interesting media to have short comunications. It's not really made to hold long stories as the limit for each twit holds it's intolerance. So how deep can you go in some lines will be more referenced into the idea of how many twits you want to write (with also it's limits as it's a multi-user comunication).
For me it's just logic you cant write a long book at twitter and have good results. You can broadcast the existance of it very well but no the contempt. So I'm stanting in the words of "not a deep social tool" and "not very informative" .What saves twitter is the magic of the "link",well know for one of the most important part of our web success. So for a tool of broadcast is very good, for a tool of spiritual or intelecualdevelopment, let's say internet and literature hold the highground.
Since it's all integrated I guess it works even thou it's not very "convergent" at least we can think about the possibility of having a breakfast over our computer. The new table of the 21 century.
