You already watched that much of it!? I watch anime very slowly, only one episode per-day, haha.
Yeah, those earlier episodes are the really good ones, where the story is quite engaging. The comedy nicely balanced and worked with the romance, and I thought it was nice to see how the those two elements worked with one another.
However, it's just towards those later episodes where it falls apart, and the main story and theme are largely forgotten (or repeated over and over again). If you don't watch those last episodes, you won't miss much, I think. The first half is definitely the stronger half.
I really liked the serie, kinda like a lot love comedy and this one had a nice touch.I was a bit socked to see how the story took some sharp turns and wondered if it had a word about not finishing it.After episode 17 I think it's down the hill and maybe wont see the last episodes.
Overall it was a good serie, thanks for recomending it Shane.
Maybe you'll like it, and maybe you won't. I'll wait and see until you watch it, then you can tell me what you thought of it.
It is a good series, especially when they keep the story consistent, and some consider it a classic (even though it is flawed). Personally, I'm not sure if I'd call it a classic or not. I'm still undecided after all this time!
I will have to see Kare KAno and then tell you what I thought about it.I was abit sick today but resisted the illness well.Saw some pictures and it looks like an interesitng serie to watch.Don't mind if it's not finishes,at least it's not endless like Kanon :3.
Well, like I was getting in my post, I wouldn't go out of my way to encourage you to finish it. If those first episodes didn't hook you, then whatever follows sure won't reel you in! With myself, however, those first eps. were magic.
Obviously I must have like it enough to watch it twice (which, probably, is more than most people have), but when it crashes into the mountainside towards the end, it feels frustratingly incomplete. Even today, my head is still full of what-ifs, but those never seem to go anywhere in the real world.
However, as you mentioned, the first half is quite good (ep.4 was perfection). I really wish I were a billionaire with a time machine: I'd travel back and give GAINAX a secure financial base to work from, and I'd pat Anno on the back every once in a while. Seriously, if he had been able to finish it, it might have been the best high-school romance ever given to the world.

I still love Kare Kano, warts and all. The first half is just so damn perfect that I can't look at the series with anything but fondness. I'd take a show gives me something I'll remember forever and then crashes and burns over something that is solid all the way through but ultimately forgettable any day of the week. Sure, Kare Kano is a frustrating series to consider, but god damn is the frustration ever worth it.

I only got a few episodes into Kare Kano before I gave up. I didn't really like the characters, and I just felt I'd rather spend my time watching other things I actually did want to spend time on.
