Hi! My name is K.D., although most online know me as misachan83. I'm 32, and am an author and anime lover. Welcome to the shadows of my creative and sometimes odd mind

Are You Kidding?

Okay, so this is kind of a rant, but I have good reason to say something, because I think that it was totally unfair to this person's page.

Ruby and Sapphire

For all of us who like Steven Universe and watch it (which I'm sure there are a bunch of us here), I'm sure you guys know about Ruby and Sapphire now being joined forever being Garnet. Well, while I was on FB, I found a wonderful fan page for Sapphire, and I joined it because I like the character design and I personally think that it's a sweet story that two would want to be together forever with undying love for each other. But being on this page, I've seen where this poor person has gotten a lot of hate over it because people don't like that relationship.

Seriously now, are people that picky that they'd pick apart a kid's show over such a thing? Most kids don't even notice it I'm sure. At least, my kids didn't and don't care. What bothers me is that this girl has actually been told that she needs to take down her page just because people don't like her having a fan page for such a character, even though the page is very, very clean and just fandom. She's stated herself that it hurts to have haters like that because she suffers from depression and these characters (including all from Steven Universe) and anime are things that really help lift her spirits.

Honestly, and this is just my personal opinion, I feel like that's completely unfair to anyone. You can like what you like, and if someone doesn't like it, then they don't have to look at it. I've seen things that I really thought shouldn't be on FB, and they show up in my newsfeed from time to time from, of all things, book sharing groups. I've had to block some of these groups from my news feed for covers of books shared by independent authors that show sexual things or nearly naked people because I don't want my daughter to end up seeing that, beings she's only eight. Now I agree that they can do their books however they want, but I need to be mindful of that for my children too. So of course this whole thing with Sapphire and Ruby being offensive is just plain silly to me. Okay, so the creators confirmed things with them, but seriously, kids don't care. They just love the characters and love Garnet, and me personally, I think it represents that when you love someone, then who they are or what they look like doesn't matter.

Okay, so that's my opinion, and hopefully I haven't offended anyone. I just found it terrible that anyone would want to tell someone to take a fan page down just because they feel like they're offended by cartoon characters. Thanks for reading!

BTW, here's the FB page that I'm talking about it you're interested in seeing it:
