I wouldn't worry about shoes for prom too much. Mostly everyone took them off to dance within 10 minutes of getting there and didn't touch them all night when I went! :D
I hope everything turns out all right for you. It's definitely hard to make transitions like that. My boyfriend and I have been going to different colleges for the past two years (just two more to go!) so I know how you feel and how it's tough and hard to imagine not getting to see yours everyday but if you have good communication and can trust each other, you should be fine :) I believe everything will work out for the best and I wish you luck!
