Actually, the currency we use in today's times use DEAD presidents (with a few exceptions). The only bits of currrency we seem to alter on a regular basis are our coins (and even THOSE don't change too much). He's a list of what currently is still being produced by our treasury and who's on them (I apologize in advance if you already know them):
Penny (= $0.01)-Abraham Lincoln (more info on him below)
Nickle (= $0.05)-Thomas Jefferson-3rd President of the US; known as the Father of the Declaration of Independance; most known for the Louisiana Purchase, which doubled the size of the US during that timeframe (as a sidenote, during 2004 to 2005 the backs of the nickle were altered to represent different events of America's Westward expansion, one of these events includes that same said purchase; the front, although a bit different, features the same guy)
Dime (= $0.10)-Franklin Delano Roosevelt-President of the US during the Great Depression and the majority of WWII; the only president to serve for a full three terms in office (he was actually elected for a fourth one, but ended up dying before he could see it and the outcome of the war through); he's also the only president to use a wheelchair (due to polio)
Quarter (= $0.25)-George Washington (more info on him below)
$1-George Washington-1st President; known as the Father of the US; basically set the standard for presidents only serving two terms in office because he didn't want to stick around for another; he's the only president who didn't have a designated political party (if he did though, he most likely would've been a Whig); he's also one of the few presidents who did NOT live in the White House (on account that it hadn't been built yet)
$5-Abraham Lincoln-President during the American Civil War era (around the 1860's); known for the Gettysburg Address (one of our most famous speeches) and for the Emancipation Proclamation (which announced freedom for the slaves in the Union. However, slaves were not technically free until the Thirteenth Amendment of our Constitution was ratified in 1865)
$10-Alexander Hamilton-1st Secretary of the Treasury; founding father of the US; led the project to establish the United States Mint; one of the two exceptions that I mentioned earlier
$20-Adrew Jackson-early President of the US, particularly known for his roughness (nicknamed "Old Hickory" as a result); war hero of the War of 1812; it's actually strange to have him on our currency due to his opposition to the National Bank, brutality towards Native Americans, and support of slavery during his life...but I suppose that just proves the saying "no one's perfect" TTwTT...
$50-Ulysses S. Grant-President of the US shortly after the Civil War; Abraham Lincoln's top general during the Civil War; advocate of freedmen civil rights during his presidency
$100-Benjamin Franklin-founding Father of the US (particularly the oldest one); known for his wit, unification attempts, and his foreign policy (don't take my word on that last one); "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise"; the only other person featured on our bills that was never a president
There are other forms, which include both a half-dollar and a dollar coin, but these are generally uncommon or rare. (Of course, the only reason why the dollar coin is uncommon is because we just can't seem to get away from using paper for this denomination! XD )
And truthfully, I don't want to see Obama on our regular currency anytime soon. We see ENOUGH of him on a regular basis, for crying out loud! (*laughs*) XD (That, and he doesn't strike me as the type that would want that during his time as president anyway.)
o i c so you must be prety busy then ^^" university stuffs lol well the highest currencies they said is pounds and then dollars, well its increasing and sometimes its decreasing S: well it really depends some people are getting poor T^T ppor them, i forgot the name of the country but theyre trying to chnage their currency to ueros that must be sad cause the other people might not be able to afford those.. its really nice knowing other countryies economies of money and whats happenening in our world XD i kinda volunteered to look money exchange thingy lately,
Well thats nice to see the outside of the country, it might be good or might be bad lolz an adventure, you're going to japan? well my friend and i wants to go there when we have jobs in US (we're planing to) maybe when we're 20s lol
Lol and the pictures in the money, they mostly used and change it to the modern presidents/ ruler or some so in US you guys might expect barrack obama on the money currency, perhaps X3
I got interested in money when my dad showed me some different currencies he picked up during his time in the Navy (England being one of those places) when I was really little. X3 (I also got interested in it because it didn't occur to me until then that other parts of the world don't use pictures of some of our dead Presidents! *laughs*) My main reason for keeping an eye on it (other than today's economy) is because I'd like to leave the US at one point or another in my life to actually see what this world has to offer beyond what I'm familiar with.
If you have any markets in mind, let me know that way I can add it to the list prior to Monday.
And about the being more online part...my university doesn't actually have us going on any type of break until this Friday. Sorry! XD (Not to say that I'm not working on it, though. ^_~ )
