Yes, watch the rest of Monster when you get the chance! imo, the second half is considerably better than the first half. And I'd actually say that Monster is, in the end, fairly positive in its portrayal of humans and their potential for good. :)

You're getting me interested in Monster again. Around the time it started airing on TV here I really fell out with darker, more depressing anime. But I certainly would like to see it at some point.

I've got no problems with the stuff you spoiled out. My main problem with the ending is that everything leading to Batman surviving and being able to retire is a dumb, convoluted mess. The ridiculousness of the scenario and its outcome, and how hokey it is, just took me out of the ending, even though I like just about everything else about it.
That said, I still think the movie is pretty boss.
I've yet to see TDKR, and I can't wait until I do; then I can see what's common throughout the series.
I have a slightly different take on TDK: One thing that strikes me about it is the notion of a supreme emergency, and how it sometimes seemingly compels people in power to override basic liberties - for the "greater good". In this case, the goal is still some notion of good, yet the concrete methods used to achieve it perhaps necessarily require breaking conventional norms. I see Batman as residing in that (darker) grey area where (to borrow a quote from the Gunslinger Girl manga) "being a bad guy lets me protect the good guys."
Can't wait to see TDKR!

Oh, I know that feeling because when she died I believe everyone laugh, it was just so not real. And I don't understand her motives either, I think the movie would have been better if Bane were the only bad guy or, if he wanted Talia, he should have worked on a better background. At least, she was pretty.
And yay for Blake being played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. I don't think that Robin in his high colored tights would have fitted the atmosphere of the trilogy. Having a "casual Robin" was better. I don't know now if they dislike Robin as a character or as a Batman's companion since the main point was (in a gross way): Batman as a lonely knight. I guess they just wanted the legacy part from Robin, I don't know.
My issue with Miranda Tate was, once she was revealed to be Talia al Ghul, she immediately became a stereotypical villain. There was nothing interesting about her, not even her motive. Even her death scene and ending lines were unusually cartoonish for this trilogy. The whole thing just rubbed me the wrong way. :/
Bu yeah, yay for Blake being the successor. I half-expected his real name to be Dick Grayson, but I guess he's just supposed to represent the "new generation" in general. Nolan and Bale have repeatedly stated their dislike for Robin, so I'm surprised his name came up even once in the script. ^^;
I liked it too and I see the end as a good thing about Bruce but I also see Blake as his legacy, maybe he'll become Nightwing to protect the city /hopes. But, yeah, I never thought we would see him that much but, well, he is Robin after all :p
As for Miranda Tate... For people who read the comics or still remember the general story of it, they knew that Ra's al Ghul only had daughters and that Bane is only a pretendant, it must have been boring for these people^^' We know why she's here but she was just too much around to me.
Never thought about Monster, but, yeah, the overall plot is indeed similar.

@Pleiades Rising:
Yes, that's especially applicable to the ending of TDK. And funny thing is, that interpretation could apply to Monster too, lol.
Hope you enjoy TDKR when you get around to watching it! :)
