I had learned that phrase in a culture class but forgot that it’s basically the idea of fleeting beauty or transience. Soo, yup. That’s definitely part of it. I’ll have to check out the Tale Foundry video.

There's a term in Japan known as "Mono no aware" which refers to a piece literature intentionally made to be sad, Grave of the Fireflies comes to mind. There's also a video piece on the "Perfect Victim Complex" by Tale Foundry on YouTube that really captures the whole sympathy for a character trope
