So maybe your problem is the school housing committee hates you? :p
It's a conspiracy! D:
In general, while a lot of people are incorrigible by this point, there are still some who are open to correction. But in any case, once they're adults or close to it, the cause (parents or whatever) doesn't matter in the slightest IMO.
It all comes down to the parents. About the only difference I see between homeschooling and public is that having other kids around can result in them learning to not chew with their mouths open. By virtue of seeing that most of the other kids don't.
I don't get the leaving your mouth open while you browse the net though. That makes no sense at all. o_O Anyway, I was not taught at home and my mother was very much the type to whack you across the knuckles if you chewed with your mouth open.
It's a pity you can't just apply some duct tape. :p
I soooo agree with the not wanting to hear food bit. That's just wrong. It's sick and wrong.
I know plenty of kids that home-schooled for at least part of their education that are completely normal, functioning human beings. Still, there are those that just make you wonder....
I'm a public school girl myself, and I've definitely seen that pretty much anyone can be awkward socially, but the real source isn't the manner of one's education but actually dun, dun, dun, the parents. Kids who at 6 years old are dressing in the most god awful ways that make the other children look at them strangely and decide to wander to the other side of the playground aren't the ones to blame. At six we think it's perfectly fine to mix purple stripes with orange polka dots. The late 20's/early 30's parents on the other hand, should know better. The only reason we feel like going in public like that would be embarrassing is because our parents freaked the first several times we tried. Unfortunately for these children of parental ineptness, once a kid's been branded early on, it'll be more difficult to feel comfortable around others, thus lending towards awkward interaction with pretty much everyone for quite a while, and perhaps could result in never being close enough at the lunch table throughout primary school for anyone to tell him to "shutyourickymouthitsnasty". I was definitely the "corrector of the socially awkward" at my school. Go me.
In my area, the prejudice isn't so much against homeschoolers however, but against everyone coming from my elementary. This county's roots are too Lilly-White to favor ethnic diversity. Maybe 27 groups is pushing it by their standards. Meff.

I know plenty of people that are completely rude and obnoxious like that, homeschooled or not. I think it just has to do with a bit of bad luck you're getting. Then again, I haven't met that many home-schooled people in real life... and my Manners Cop come right-off-the-Euro-boat. Curse thee elbows and the left-handed knife! Curses!
I find this similar to the misconception that kids who went to a private school at any time in their life has money, possess major superiority complexes over the public school kids and going someplace like a public or community school is beneath them. I went to a private school for eight years while being the nice kid who came from a blue-collar background and actually had more of an education once I switched over to the public middle school down the street. That, plus my city is infamous for being on a lake. I live closer to the interstate than the lake. Pfft.

Ahhh, good... the last part of your post saved you from a slightly infuriated comment from me. (But not really infuriated.)
Yes, I too home schooled, and am perfectly well-mannered. It just depends on the family in general, whether they have their kids in public, private, or home school. :/
I just hate when people play the home school card as a reason for a kid being imperfect for whatever reason. Such as, "They can't socialize if they're home schooled." Which is total bull crap...

I've been publicly schooled my entire life up until a year ago, when I started doing it online. I do, however, have a friend who was homeschooled most of his life and he's turned out pretty good from what I can tell. And I'm pretty sure he chews with his mouth closed.
So maybe your problem is the school housing committee hates you? :p

Well, you can do one of two things: 1) Point out their own ill manners to them and ask them to stop, or 2) Irnore it as best you can. Killing them would make it go away, but then you've opened up a whole new set of problems.
(And don't even get me started on Country. Bloody hell.)
I had a room mate who would leave the apartment, leave the door to his room open, and leave his radio on (at a rather high volume) with it tuned to the Gospel station.

I'd never really thought of homeschooling to be the cause for breaches of etiquette until now. Probably because homeschooling isn't huge here.
Doesn't mean I don't want to duct tape a few open-chewers though : D
