It's not so much the cold as it is this house is underinsulated. There's nothing between the floor and the crawlspace underneath, and I've been underneath to know this.
Of all the movies in the horror/lots of people die genre, the two best movies I think exist are Pitch Black for sheer creativity, and Event Horizon for sheer "holy moses what is OH GOD OH GOD"-ness.
No movie has scared me since I watched Event Horizon. And I only watched it because I thought it was a sci-fi movie about the other side of black holes, which is . . . sort of right.
I haven't seen Pitch Black before, but I think I remember it being featured in some best-SF-movies list a while ago, which piqued my interest... will have to watch it sometime.
