Even in my English class, teachers were saying, "Make sure to use percentages and statistics in your essays. However, if you don't have the exact numbers, make some up to make your paper appear well informed."
I was like, "What the hell? Last time I checked, making up statistics and data can get you in trouble in life." That must be why that crap happens all the time...
Meh, people will skew statistics to fit their biased opinion to justify and stengthen their arguement; will blatantly refuse any other perspective, idea, or fact that contradicts theirs, no matter if it had a shit load of science backing it up. *sigh*
I remember my sociology teacher had told us when he attended a presentation for store owners/workers and policemen (he was a clerk at the time) about stealing... they said that 50% of thieves are female... they were all writing it down and no one paid attention to the fact that that could also mean 50% of thieves are male.. XD ah, funny. Seriously, just throw a few numbers at people and you'll look smart. 2% have not tried smoking pot. O RLY?
