I be sorry! That really sux... Something similar keeps happening to me. Every time one of my friendsasks me to get together with the rest of my group at someone's house, I only get to go for an hour, and I arrive late, too! because my parents made prior commitments...
My parents aren't even those kind of "always involved" people either!!! Dammit!
