Asking to ask a question just means doubling-up anyway. How can you ask permission to ask a question when doing so requires you to ask a question without permission in the first place? *mind spins*

So yeah, better to just ask and either get an answer or not.

That sounds like a good rule, though its obvious those people asking for your permission are simply being respectful/uncertain because they aren't sure their questions are important enough. But you are right, if they want to save your time, it would be best to simply ask. On the other hand, I find it hard to reply to all my messages so I can't imagine what you have to sort through in your inbox. I hope you won't get any spam, and you shouldn't if they bring you questions in chat. Perhaps you should set up something like a "celebrity chat" only with yourself in a kind of press conference where the whole topic of discussion is to ask you questions. That my be helpful and get all the questions out of everyone's systems so they don't have to worry about them when they are just chatting normally.
