It's been a long time since I wrote anything like that. I always thought the syllable rule was fun. Annoying but fun since it forced you to be creative. XD
I remember my seventh grade English teacher. He was a man born to missionary parents in Japan who grew up there then moved to America. When we got to the poetry section, he made us write tons of Haiku. A not just the "5-7-5" ones, but we had this whole checklist. For example:
I cushion my tears
into my dry pillow
under the willow.
idk i just made it up ahah.
then if you didn't use the syllable rule, does it still count as a hakiku? like isnt a haiku what it is becuz of that? idk.
