PNG are nice as a base to work with but saving jpg at a higher quality level still looks good and doesn't waste a ton of space. I think they forget that you can choose what level it saves it. :p

PNG is a complete waste of space and bandwidth for most web distributed art and wallpapers because a high quality JPG will usually be indistinguishable from a lossless PNG and a fraction of the file size. So it's not the site that sucks for not allowing PNG, it's the people for not knowing how to properly compress their images.
