Most who use photoshop do not know half (or more) of it. I too, do not know all there is to know abouth photoshop. Not by a long shot!
So don't be discouraged, there are a lot of free tutorials on line which can help you out. You don't have to know all there is to know of photoshop to make a nice wallpaper.
Actually, you just need imagination and a few selected tools to make something nice. The rest you can find on internet. Sites for free fonts like 1001freefonts.com or brushes like brusheezy.com are a great help in creating something :) Good luck and have fun!
