I've noticed one thing, when some people post collabs they seem to not be linked to the original. Yet they in their posts they say who the original was by. This is affecting our numbers I've seen it a few times, is there anything we can do about this?

I agree, this is definitely one of the nicest communities I've ever been in. I don't think they'd be art thieves! Sure there has probably been the occasional art thief, but this place isn't like that. Coming from a person that has been to some of the worse and ruder parts of the internet, this place is really nice! (Sometimes overly nice!)

I appologize in advance for this rant, and I am usually a pretty agreeable girl...but for some reason, you're comments these last few days have really pissed me off. I have sat idle by and watched you deny and reject EVERY reply you have been sent. This may sound rude, but I think you are being unforgivable. Even if this comment gets me suspended from the O, it is worth it on all accounts in my opinion. but please, hear me out.
You say that It is promoting art theft...but HOWEVER it is really PREVENTING art theft, no??? this feature, will be making it LEGAL and more appropriate to edit someone's art.not to mention, the scans people use most of the time aren't as nice as the art on theO. and to tell you the absolute truth, i would feel honored if someone liked my own art enough to edit it to make something. who knows, the end result may even be more beautiful than the original. *something to think about* and as long as the original says it's all right to do it. what the hell!?

of all the websites I have been on promoting fan art and such, I have NEVER found a site more friendly and welcoming as this. look around you, get to know the people here and you will see things the way I see them. the people here care about art as much as you do. (if they didn't, then why on earth would they be here?)
look at our faces...think about it. we are ALL passionate about art. and I don't believe that any of us would stoop so low as to stealing someone elces art.say that I'm wrong all you want, but think about it, we know how wrong it is.
this community is more like a family than anything. and the challenges adam has presented us with have been here to motivate us. it has done good. no matter how much we complain about it, I think we all can agree that theotaku.com hasn't been this good about submissions in a long time!
it isn't cruel at all, not like you have been saying. and to tell you the truth, I think adam is fibbing anyway.
this may just be my personal opinion, but I think that if the features were just GIVEN to us, it would'nt be nearly as satisfying.

That said, comparing the response to this challenge and the previous... This feels like the direct opposite of "Third time's the charm." ಠ∀ಠ ...Anybody want to take bets on whether there'll be no raising of the limit this time? x3

Moderation/report handling can take some time since TheOtaku is a reasonly big website - send me the link to the art ripper via PM, and I'll check out the issue.

As long as the internet is around, and people keep posting their items, theft will always exist. There is no full-proof way to stop art theft. That's the solid truth. Therefore, worrying about the possible increase of art theft on TheOtaku due to this new feature is a waste of time - without or without this feature, there are & have been loads of thieves on TheOtaku, and many times, the measures that artists go through to prevent it, even watermarking, doesn't phase many art rippers.

The best you can do is to keep track of your artwork, report any theft you come across, and patiently wait for the issue to be resolved- or prevent it altogether by not posting your work at all.

I honestly really like the idea of site-wide challenges, and I love the fact that they tend to make theOtaku a much more active place. However, I'm just not really sure I'm up to this challenge. In the last two challenges I probably submitted more wallies than I had for a couple months previously, so I'm just a little wallpapered out. And also, I just haven't gotten to know enough people to have a good idea of where to start searching for people that make really good fanart. (And people that don't mind it being used.) Anyway, I wish luck to everyone participating in this challenge.

I'm positive. Adam is basically pulling everyone's leg. The feature in question has already been programed, I've seen it and tested it myself. The challenge is a way to promote the new art deal and to get people motivated to be more active. I know I plan on giving it a try with some art to make cards.

But yeah, chances of him not putting the new feature on or taking away the new one is pretty slim. The only time something comes down is if it really doesn't get used or ends up being a programming nightmare to maintain. That hasn't happened a lot.

This is an interesting feature. I'm sad that I can't take part this time because most of my art is watermarked and they're mostly sketches, gifts, and contest entries any way; no way any one can work with that. (u _ u;) So I'm gonna have to block my stuff until I actually submit something decent. Sorry~~ XDD;;

I personally love the new feature, and am really excited to see how many talented artists are giving permissions. I will definitely be taking advantage of this feature.

Wait..but can't people steal fanart even without this feature? I mean, anyone can copy it, and alter it and post it on another site, right? So your arguing point isn't that up there, just saying. And you shouldn't always think of the negatives in life dear, I'm pretty sure there are waaay more good people here than you think. Why not try looking at this feature with a different perspective? :)

Little problem with using fanart works for wallpapers- they often aren't just large enough or HQ for it.

Not again with this challenges and this time when I don't even feel like it. At least I got my laptop back so that will make it easy.

Personally, I think the collaborative sharing is a great idea! In fact, if you're familiar with Japanese art, you are aware that collaborative works created with consent have their place. (Check THIS out to learn a bit more.)

Also, I have to say that Adam's playful taunts are amusing! Creativity can flourish under pressure, and bribing us with new features is like dangling a carrot in front of the bunny's nose! It's gotten people engaged in the community - which is the whole point of a fan site like this!

I hope people realize that Adam is a goof and doesn't take features away. lolol Don't take this so seriously guys and have fun using the new option to use fan art, provided the artist has allowed it. :)

I think Adam may be serious in taking away the new feature if this challenge isn't accomplished. Failure to do so would be an indication to him that a lot of people still do not agree with the new feature, or that a lot of members are not interested in using it to create ecards and wallpapers and that the feature is just shaping up to be a useless feature.
