i was dissapointed at how terrible the dragon ball and speed racer movies seemed (i grew up with both anime series). if you told me a japanese company was doing the movie, i wouldn't worry at all. the first two death note were wonderful and L change the world was ok. honey and clover, love com, and the two nana movies were good too. it just seems the japanese put more care into these adaptions than american companies.
Most of the series takes place in the (admittedly Japanese-inspired) afterlife, anyway. Dead people are a universal concept, so I don't really see a problem with an ethnically diverse cast in this one. In the case of something like The Last Airbender, where the culture is almost as much of a character in the source material as Aang himself, I can understand the complaints. Bleach has at least as much Spanish and Mexican influence as it does Japanese if not more, so it's a bit harder to pinpoint exactly what the culture depicted is even supposed to be.
As someone who ISN'T a fan of Bleach, I honestly don't care, however...
There's a few things that bother me with previously stated comments; someone said that because the show is has lots of Japanese influence (that's honestly a no brainer there) that the actors should be Japanese or at least Asian. There's only one SMALL problem with that, Warner Bros. is mainly consisted of, I dunno, AMERICAN ACTORS. Sure you can find a few good Asian-American actors (I can't think of any at the time, but if you were to ask me of a good American actor it would probably take a while for me to respond on that one as well), but I think that misses the point. I think that if the production is too concerned on how the actor looks ethnic wise, then you'll missing out on the actual "acting" ability. Also, I don't think they should be overly concerned on making the actors look exactly like their anime counterparts. Why? Because it'd be a little odd to see someone with extremely spiky hair. It's just not natural and looks fake no matter how well someone thinks they can pull it off.
On a side note, I think the story has to be altered just the slightest to make it movie appropriate. God knows it has numerous chapters, and its just not practical to have every scene or the same plot for that matter. A general plot should be taken and then developed. Its the same with other superhero movies; Batman, Superman, etc all of the movies have the general plot of the comics, but took their own twist. And many of these have done successful (most by Warner Bros., mind you).
I'll probably go watch it, just for the sake of it, but I'm too busy waiting for "Cowboy Bebop" and "Death Note" to really care.

But I do think that if this movie is set in America instead of Japan, set in a state with a High Japanese Population so Ichigo doesn't seem to out of place (if he's Japanese also) I also do think that Actors of many different ethnicites should be casted to do the roles due to Bleach's high use of Spanish/other cultural influence (OR AT LEAST TO THE POINT WHERE THEY CAN ACTUALLY ACT WELL! I MEAN SERIOUSLY, WE NEED GOOD ACTORS IN OUR MOVIES MORE OFTEN! NOT JUST A KID WITH ABS!)
This is going to be VERY hard to pull off for who ever is making this movie happen, but hey, if they do need some one who can act....

I'm a devout Bleach fan, so I don't wanna see damage done to the series, but, for some reason or other, I agree with stararnold to a point, and I think that maybe a new take on the series for live action MIGHT be good, but....it's BLEACH, the title itself is reference to Ichigo, you can't omit him, it's impossible.
Unrelated: Evolution ISN'T a Dragon Ball Z movie, it's an alternate universe DRAGON BALL movie, granted it's not the best movie ever, it doesn't fail completely and was good in it's own ways.
I dunno. I bet he could dye his hair orange and run around with a giant sword. Fans of the English dub would probably love to see the voice of Ichigo play as Ichigo. Also, the man wore a funny black costume in Power Rangers if I remember correctly. :P
Yeah I agree with almost all of you guys, but the thing is that i hate when things i love have bad reputations of being terrible. and not EVERY live action movie in japanese is bad. XD I mean, the first two death note movies were awful, but L change the World was something to praise! Haha. Let's just hope they don't have the same exact story line as Bleach, to make it more creative!

Guys, Bleach and Dragonball are 2 completely different things. Bleach is gonna be awesome no matter what. I'm a devout fan even if they botch the live-action. :)
Dragonball on the otherhand is a different story. Everyone remembers watching it when they were little but as we grew up, we all strayed away from the series and (like me) only remember the main characters. Of course Dragonaball was sucky but that's because it was not as cool as we remembered it.
Besides, everything will always be better in anime form.
Dude i totally think it would be a fantastic phenomenon if bleach came to theaters and i think will definitely be more popular than dragonball evolution because everyone well almost every one loves bleach in anime and manga form. it would be awesome if they just translated one of the bleach movies that haven't come out in america yet

Well they need some creative screen writers if they made this movie. It has the potential to be awesome, but I agree it would probably have to be a different storyline than the one in the Bleach anime/manga while keeping with the soul reaper concept. If it's not, oh well I'd still see it lol.

For anyone wanting to know what I think about this, I wrote in my post, "Warner Bros. should aim to distinct this movie from the Manga by focusing on new heroes and villains while maintaining the soul reaper concept. Think of it being like "Gundam SEED" starting a new "Gundam" continuity without using characters from original "Gundam". That way, the movie can sell to a more mainstream audience (incl. non-Anime viewers) in North America while sticking to the soul reaper concept itself. Plus, it should try aiming for an R-rating".
Like Ace said, we should give it time, becasue fair criticism only happens if you have seen the whole film from start to finish first.

As usual, I think there's a bit of an overreaction going on here. It's just a Hollywood movie, guys. At worst, it'll be bad like the Dragonball one and we'll all have something to make fun of. At best, dare I say it might even be good? Give it time. We'll see how it turns out.
Anyway, who's up for some cast predictions? I'll be content as long as Hitsugaya is played by Danny DeVito.
I'm going to give them the benefit of a doubt, for now. The only problem I'm going to have is that the outfits for the Soul Reapers are obviously Japanese-inspired. Therefore, they either need to base the damn thing in Japan and have people of Asian (preferably Japanese) descent playing the right roles, or they'd have to change the outfits. Which would kind of ruin the manga a tad, but hey, it's about the powers, not the outfits.
*jumps up and down, clapping hands and giggleing insanely* YAAAAAAAY! they better have the same voice actors though. if they changed ulquiorra's voice i think i'd die. and i best be good, or some body's getting blown up.

First thing I want to bring up- this is Warner Brothers, not Fox, who were the ones behind DragonBall Evolution, if I remember correctly.
This somewhat scares me, even though I've long since dropped Bleach. But I'm going to hold any judgments until I actually see the movie for myself.
Also, bets on how long it'll take them to make a Naruto live action movie, anyone?
