Not just one guy but a group of guys. The Speed Gamers are a group situated outside the Dallas area who do speedruns of popular (and not so popular) games for a good cause. Typically one person will play the game and one or two people will commentate and talk to their cyber audience to get donations and offer prizes to those that donate. During their week-long Final Fantasy marathon, they changed everyone's name to "Sephiroth" because they received a certain amount of money within a time limit.
Simply think of it like a telethon that is continuous for roughly 3 days and run by geeks.
Man, these guys are great. They should do stuff like this at all the cons; the game rooms would still be full of unwashedness, but if they raised so much money for a good cause, it'd be somewhat more accepted.

Ever since I heard about the Child's Play Super Mario Marathon a while back, I've thought it would be awesome to be part of one of these. I could totally rock Super Metroid and provide some good commentary, too.
