"Now, Hollow, how do we get there?" Jack asked me as Clockwork disappeared.
"Just down this road, past the forest," I told him, as I pointed to a dirt road that lead off of the pumpkin patch.
"Then let's go, shall we, my dear?" Jack asked me kindly.
"Let's," I replied in a tone that sounded serious. Jack started to run towards the path as soon as I said this, so I suddenly followed, able to keep up with him.
It took a while to get there, but we were able to. The houses were formed in a U shape with a type of fountain in the middle of all of them. The fountain was dried up and broken down, and the houses were boarded up, broken down, or destroyed.
"Oogie should be in the first house," I told Jack in a whisper, because Oogie could hear my voice from a mile away. I didn't even know why he could, but he's a big bag of bugs, so what else? I didn't even know why I went on this mission with Jack, but maybe it's because Jack seemed more like a father to me than Oogie did and that I've started to hate Oogie because I had found out what he did in the past.
Jack and I walked over to the first house and bent down below the window quickly, just in case Oogie was in the first floor. I crawled over to the door and put my ear to it. I didn't hear anything in the first floor, but I heard some sort of giggling in the ground floor, where Oogie usually slept. Okay, this is just getting a bit freaky.
"Let's go," I heard Jack say, as he stood up and reached over to me open the door with his boney hand. I stood up as he opened the door, but as soon as he opened the door, the same upset face I had seen before became upon his face.
"That's Sally's laugh," Jack said in an unsteady voice. He suddenly ran in quickly and went down the stairs.
"Jack, wait!" I exclaimed, but he was already downstairs, and I was too late. I ran after him, going quietly down the stairs, just as Jack had done. Oogie's door was open just a bit and Jack was looking in just a little. I saw sadness, and even tears appear in his eyes. I walked over to the door silently and looked in just a little bit. All that I saw was shocking and disgusting.
