Part 21

Well after lunch Oki finally awoke finding Light at her side fast asleep. She chuckled weakly rolling his way so she was looking into his eyes when he opened them. Oki gently brushed the hair from his eyes, Light slowly opening them smiling a joyous smile. He quickly but gently took Oki into his arms kissing her.

He pulled from the kiss as he whispered, “Never do that again. You scared me to death.”

Light pulled her back to him for another kiss. Oki could feel the pain course threw her body, but she did not care as long as Light held her close in his arms.

“I am hungry…” Oki says as they pulled from the kiss.

Light chuckled as he looked into her eyes, “I am sure I can take care of that.”

Light went to get up from the bed as he heard Amaterasu tell him.

“She has no food in the house. She has not been shopping in days.”

Light looked over his shoulder at Oki slightly displeased at hearing this.

“Oki is this true?”

Oki ashamed of this fact looks away from Light.

“Oki…?” Light questioned.

“Ammy is right I have no food in the house.”

Light turned looking down at her as he sat on the edge of the bed, “Oki you cannot keep your health up if you are not eating.”

“I know, it’s just…”

“No, that is not an excuse, Oki.” Light say interrupting her as he got to his feet.

“I have not given you a reason yet. How can you call it an excuse?” Oki says.

“It’s all an excuse in my eyes Oki. Now stay in bed and I will run to the store and see what I can find for us.” Light tells her. “If you need anything L is…”

“L left about an hour ago.” Amaterasu says cutting Light off.

Light looks Amaterasu’s way, “He did?” Light slipped into his jacket. “Good, I was kind of worried leaving with L still here and Oki not feeling well.”

Light turned looking at Oki, “Stay in bed. I will be right back. And if L shows again, do not let him in until I get here.”

“Why Light?” Oki asks sitting up in the bed.

Light walked over to the bed. He places his hand on her cheek leaning down and kissing Oki on top of the head.

“Do not worry about it. Just do not let him in without me being here.”

“Alright Light, if it means that much to you.” Oki said.

“It does…” Light says leaving the room.

Oki soon heard the front door close. She lay back down in her bed as she looked up at the ceiling. After awhile her eyes started to get heavy again and she found herself drifting in and out of reality. Amaterasu saw this and left Oki’s side and home.

Oki’s eye fluttered as she fought the urge to sleep. Her eyes fluttered again as she heard the front door open then close. The urge to sleep had taken over Oki’s mind and body, as she did not react to the door.

She knew it was only Light that had come back from the store. Oki closed her eyes as she felt a presents above her. The bed slightly moved as she opened her eyes to revile L had positioned himself over the top of her, on all fours. Oki alarmed by this went to move quickly as L grabbed her forcing her back to the bed.

“What are you doing L?! Get off me!” Oki exclaimed.

“Who is Ammy?” L spat out.

“I don’t know!”

“You’re lying Oki! She is your shinigami isn’t she?”

“L, your crazy get off me!” Oki cried out.

“Tell me what I want to know, Oki. Tell me about the note book. Tell me what the eyes are.”

Oki stopped struggling under L’s hold as he requested these things from her. She looked deep into the eyes of a desperate man seeking the truth.

“Tell me how many note books are out there. Tell me how you knew my real name.” L paused drawing closer to her as he whispered.

“Tell me Light is Kira once again.”

Oki whispered back to L as he hovered over her, “I know nothing of your requests.”

L angered at this lunged from the bed. He grabbed Oki by her wrist jerking her from the warmth of her bed. Oki yelled out in pain from his brutality.

“L, stop this you have gone mad.”

L swung Oki around him causing her to fall to the floor. He quickly started ravaging her room. Going threw draws, boxes, the closet and flipping her mattresses on her bed.

“Stop this!” Oki exclaimed getting from the floor slowly.

L walked her way grabbing her wrist again jerking her from the bedroom. He walked quickly to the living room pushing her to the floor. He then started ripping apart her living room. Books, stuffed animals and dolls scattered across her floor. Furniture flipped on its side. Pictures and posters ripped from the walls.

“I will find it Oki. I know it is here. I will find it.”

L sounded like a man on the edge as he headed to the last bookshelf in the room.

Oki could not let him find her Death Note. So she quickly got to her feet and tackled L to the floor beneath her. L quickly recovered shoving Oki off him. He knew he had found the right place to look as he headed back toward the shelf. Oki more weakened then she could have imagined, quickly got to her feet once more.

With one fail sweep of L’s hand the books hit the floor. Oki saw her Death Note slide to a stop just a few feet from L.

Oki and L moved at the same time going for the book. Oki took her first step as her heart pounded in her chest. Her eyes widen as she started to collapse.

“NO!” Oki exclaimed aloud, “L… don’t…”

L looked Oki’s way when he heard her call out to him. He saw her collapsing. L even though angered at Oki still loved her very much. He moved quickly toward her catching her in his arms. They both fell to the floor.

“Oki!” L exclaimed feeling his shame wash over him for what he has done.

“Why could you not just answers my questions?” L asks sadly.

Oki smiled a weak smile as a tear rolled down her cheek. She slowly lifted her hand resting it to L’s cheek.

“Those things need not concern you L. It is an eternal life of purgatory and shame and if you do not have to live it. It is best you do not.”

“Why Oki? Why did you choose to live such a life?” L begged her to know.

“I didn’t, by the time I knew what had happened it was too late for me. I had no choice, but to carry out my fate. But I carried it out the noblest way I could think to do--” Oki grabbed at her chest.

“NO OKI! HANG ON!” L yells.

He quickly picked Oki up into his arms. As L turned he saw Light standing there in the doorway of the living room. The bag Light held in his hand when he entered was dropped to the floor at his feet. The look of fury and the intent to kill raged within Light’s eyes.

Just then, Amaterasu appeared in the room.

“Take her from him Ammy.” Light said in the calmest tone he could muster.

Suddenly Oki’ body was lifted from L’s arms as she floated next to him in the nothingness that surrounded her.

Light stepped aggressively toward L, “The beating I gave you weeks ago L. Is going to seem like a love tap, compared to the nightmare I am about to give you now.”

“Light stop.” Amaterasu tells him just as he grabbed L and drew back to hit him.

“This is not what Oki would have wanted. She loves you too much to have you jeopardize your place in the Kira investigation. She wants you to create your perfect world for you and her…” Amaterasu paused, “No matter what it takes.”

Light stood there listening to Amaterasu. He knew her words to be true. But the rage to kill L was even more intense then it ever had been and all he wanted was to see L dead where he stood. Light gritted his teeth and jerked his arm back. He then shoved L back with great force causing him to stumble and fall back to the floor.

“Light…” Oki called out in a weak tone.

Light quickly went to Oki taking her from Amaterasu. He slowly lowered him and Oki to the floor, gently moved the hair from Oki’s face. A tear rolled down Light’s cheek.

“Hold on Oki. We can get you help. They can…”

Oki shook her in a weak manor, as she covered Light’s lips with her fingertips.

“Shhh… Just hold me close that is all I want. The pain is gone and soon it will all be over with.”

Oki’s hand slid down as Light caught it in his.

“No, No Oki I am not ready to be without you. Not yet-- Not now. I need you. I love you.” Light whispered to her.

Oki smiled her last smile as she looked Light deep in his eyes, “And I will always love you Light. And I will always be with yo--”

Oki eyes slowly went closed as Light held her close, “No Oki please-- Not now--”

Light sat on the floor holding Oki tight in his arms.

“Fair well my friend.” Amaterasu tells Oki touching the top of her head.

Light got from the floor with Oki in his arms. Tears stained his face as other tears quickly followed behind those.

“Light?” L called to him.

Light did not answer nor did he stop as he exited Oki’s house. L went quickly after Light, he stopped inches away from the door as he remembered Oki’s note book. L turned to see the note book gone and the mess created to find it.

L fell to his knees hanging his head; tears fell to the floor beneath him.

“What have I done here? Oki-- Oki I am so sorry.”
