    @nekusagi:

There is just something about both James and Xellos, where they are guys, but they very much aren't... I'm not sure how many good cosplayers I've seen of either gender for those two.

IAWTC on your comment about flamboyant bishounen characters being hard for dudes to cosplay, especially your using James as an example. I've yet to see a decent male cosplay of him, and I crossplay him and am unsure if I'M even femmy enough. And I'm a girl.

It's so sad that people are so judgmental. Most people are just looking to have a good time being a fictional character. Just for fun--not everyone is concerned with accuracy. I suppose we just have to aware that there will be critcism. I haven't cosplayed yet but it is on my to-do list for next year's local conventions...

I think most Cosplayers get their starts on halloween. So its kind of the gateway drug into cosplaying.

I love that manga, just for that reason. It's a great look at the prejudices American anime artist face and convention life. And conventions are their own little weekend world.

the series dramacon by svetlana chemkova (sp?) deals with this issue, as well as a lot of other anime convention issues, and i highly recommend it. it adds humor while dealing with stuff that is typical (some might call cliche) of large anime gatherings. it may possibly be one of my favoriteist series eva!!

I always meant to cosplay Winry, but my love of FMA came about the same time as my frustration with sewing and cosplaying in general. It kind of started being more work than fun.

I'm going to Otakon dressed as a male character. Now that I think about it it's my first time doing so. I'm going to try my best to become him (Hitsugaya), but I know there will be this one person who I'll walk by and say to themselves, that's so inaccurate...

I hate people who judge. The ones who want to have fun and are just doing it for the event have to put up with it all and I don't think that's fair. They shouldn't have to go with that on their minds.

Last year at Otakon I saw Man Nausicaa and Man Sailor Neptune. I threw an absolute fan-girl fit over Nausicaa and only realized it was a dude after I had gushed over his costume. Man Neptune had on the most detailed Neptune costume ever, down to the shoes. He even shaved his legs. They were amazingly awesome and I wouldn't mind seeing them again.

Thanks for all the helpful hints. I've been wanting to get into Cosplay but I've been afraid to try. Now I can do more carefully. And I'll on the look out for random costume spammers. Thanks again.

“and you'll need those nerves of steel when you run into the big hairy man in a little tiny skirt.”

I’m British; my countries ultimate form of comedy is a man in a dress. When I see such things, I stare blankly for a moment then introduce myself. Crossplayers, transvestites, both groups of people are rather charming when you get to know them.

You were right on, sort of. The main problem is those people who do it for the wrong reasons. Imitation is the best form of flattery. Football fans have jerseys and scarves, trekies have federation uniforms, and we have character costumes. The desire to imitate is just the same, regardless of the characters form.

Cosplaying Winry seems to be an easy one, but I do try as hard as I can to get it spot on, so hopefully it makes me stand out against others who stick any old colour overalls on for example. However, since I cut my long blonde hair, I have had to settle on a wig, and though its a closer blonde in comparison to Winry's, tis just not the same *sigh*

Hairy legs and mini skirts, seasons hawt new look maybe?

Adam may call it disturbing, but I call it chock full of 100% pure 24-karat awesomeness!

I used to be the guy who read a lot of those "scary cosplay" sites. I'm more forgiving now, especially now that I've actually seen so many amazing cosplays.

Does Sailor Bubba actually still go out to these things?

I'll be crossplaying this year at Anime Expo(going as L), and I keep telling my family that it's perfectly normal for a girl to dress as a boy, but I don't think they get it. xD I may have to send this to my Mom.
