in my play-through i had made sure that everyone was married before i was done with chapter 14. finished the game since last week or so, i can't remember. just like you i am gonna plan things alot better in my next game(unfortunately though i wouldn't be marrying cordelia).
apart from movement once she reaches level 17 or 18 she'll gain a ability that enables her to act twice in one turn.
I think on my next play-through I'll plan more, but this time I just ending up having the units marry pretty quick haha. G+C are a good team because she has good movement and he can unlock doors and chests, it was handy! I haven't got too far through the game yet, I think I'm on chapter... 15? I haven't played for a couple of weeks.
