I think its alright to copy an image if you draw it, er...at least..that's what I do (all the time) o-o;

But seriously, I like how you did this. I wanted that you make something that will not only bring nostalgia to me, but also bust your skills at drawing. SO, for that you needed to look at a picture and there is nothing wrong with that, because by looking at other you train yourself and become better each time while your brain remembers they way you drew that.
All in all, I really like it and how you did it and I know that you worked hard.^^
