I enjoyed it too; actually, Lois Lowry is one of my favorite writers.
I made this black and white because after I did the drawing and shading, I thought coloring it would throw it off. (And plus, I don't remember the main character's hair or eye color, and I know that was important to the plot. -_-')
I haven't read that book since seventh or eighth grade, either! I really enjoyed it when I read it. And I think it's influenced some of my writing, too.
Now tell me, did you make the picture black and white for the reason that I think you did? If so, I think that it was a good idea to go without colors.
