oh now I see it! ha ha ha. It took me a while to actually get what was happening in the image but after reading your description I see whats going on...and its pretty interesting.
Though i would advise you to have added more depth of shadow so that the viewer can better see what is seperated.
I really love the hands! they look very well drawn and clean!

I like the splatter effects as usual. I love the angle of this picture, great job capturing the emotion. He looks pretty cute too ;-D
