I like the black and white one best too ^^ I like her eyes in that version. I'm always astounded by your shading... ♥

i always love my black and white better.. lol.. but sometimes the thought of having colors are more attractive, i kinda lost my confidence in my shading.. *booo* but thanks.. i appreciate it.. *hugs*

the smooth effect is just part of the shading.. dont let the pencil leave the paper.. apply pressure at times too to get a gradient.. if smudging helps to smooth things out, smudge.. but that'll give a different effect similar to irghost's pics.. hope that helps.. *^^*
